Pre-Program Session (May 26 through June 6, 2008)
Interns may opt to arrive two-weeks early in order to get a head start on the program
and receive an additional two paid weeks. This session is optional, but valuable for
those available earlier in the summer. Pre-programs and training will be customized
to the specific intern position. In general, activities will include Line of Business
(LOB) introductions, opportunities to shadow and observe, competitor analysis,
information about the Giant Eagle supply chain and business structure, an
overview of Allegheny County Health Department Food Safety regulations, etc.
10-week Intern Development Program
All interns will be paid for a 10-week period (June 9 through August 15, 2008)
during which they will be engaged in a number of educational, business,
interactive and cultural experiences, including:
- Several orientation classes that position interns to understand and succeed within the Giant Eagle culture
- In-depth forums with senior executives
- Visits and exposure to all aspects of company operations
- A team project designed to foster collaboration while working toward a real-world objective
- Presentation of this project to top-level executives
- Day-to-day training and assignments in specific areas of interest
- Social and cultural events that promote interaction and friendship among program members
Interns are viewed as contributing members to our company. They are valued
and treated like professionals. Most importantly, they are given real jobs to
do with real accountability — an opportunity to make a real difference.
